Axia knows that kids do best when surrounded by loving and supportive families. Caring for kids who have experienced trauma requires a solid support system. Axia Families focuses on supporting and providing valuable resources to the families caring for foster and adopted children.

Axia Families supports foster, post-adoptive, and biological families caring for vulnerable children through:

  • Monthly Support groups: Families gather monthly to eat dinner together, hear from a speaker on a pertinent topic, and find community through sharing of experiences, all while their children are enjoying time together in a kid’s program

  • Welcome Packages: Families often receive little notice when welcoming a child into their homes. Axia Families delivers a package during these hectic first few days.

  • Meals: It may seem like a small thing, but a hot meal delivered to a family's doorstep going through a difficult time can be such a blessing.

  • Subsidized babysitting: Families caring for vulnerable kids need time to refresh and recharge! Axia works with families to subsidize the cost of childcare so that finances are not a roadblock to mental health breaks.

  • Mentorship: Axia Families matches seasoned foster and adoptive families with those newer in the journey to provide much-needed support, guidance, and advice.

There is a great gap in support services for those who have had the privilege of no longer being in the foster care system. Once the child is adopted, most of the financial support vanishes, and that includes mental health services. It can be difficult to start these services after adoption, and often, the need is not apparent until then.

Mental services are a support often left to the county because of the financial burden that most families don’t wish to incur. However, if left to the government, families have limited options in therapists and the worldview that accompanies them. These services are often necessary for survival but non-Christian and non-trauma informed counseling frequently can do more damage than good.

Axia is developing a program to supplement the cost of mental health services, for a period of time, for pre-selected post adoptive children.
